PLANT SIZE

Plant height/length:  Around 35-40cm.

Pot size:  12cm plastic grow pot.

Can be purchased in plastic grow pot, or repotted in a simple terracotta pot (reference image provided)

DESCRIPTION

The Velvet Calathea, or Furry Feather, couldn’t be more appropriately named. Due to the tiny hairs that cover its waxy leaves and stems, the plant has a very soft, velvety feel. Not to mention it is also quite the display. It has red stems, with blue-green leaves that have a purple underside.

As a tropical plant, Calatheas thrive best when provided with conditions similar to their native rainforests. It prefers medium to bright indirect light, moist soil at all times and frequent misting to increase humidity. You can use a humidifier to boost humidity at home or mist it at least once a day. Placing it in a tray filled will pebbles and water will also do the trick.

Calatheas are also known as Prayer Plants due to the fact that their leaves stay in an upright position during the day and then fold up like praying hands at night.
